ORIGINAL ART BY GRAY INSPIRED BY JAPANESE GYOTAKU TRADITIONS
With the training and guidance by the well-respected Hawaiian Gyotaku artist, G. Yojiro Soma, Gray Taxidermy, Inc., the world’s largest marine taxidermy company, has merged their traditional trophy mount business which they have pioneered for over 50 years; and combined it with a Hawaiian inspired Gyotaku art form. The result provides customized and unique fish paintings through a method offered by no one else in the marine art industry.
Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese art form that is highly unique. The word Gyotaku itself is a combination of two separate words - Gyo, which means “Fish,” and “Taku,” which means rubbing. As it’s name indicates, Gyotaku is an art form that produces imprints of fish through the method of rubbing or pressing select rice paper on to a fish.
Our modernized technique allows a conservation minded approach and option to traditional Gyotaku without sacrificing art.

Our artist Hunter Hall and Leo Lampone Jr. have perfected their craft after being trained by the absolute best and 50 year fish taxidermy veterans. Hunter has also studied under famous Gyotaku artist G. Yojiro Soma to create the most amazing and best Hawaiian inspired fish painting ever seen. Our artists will be able to recreate what ever trophy you have caught. The custom painting process provides an exact representation based on or according to a photograph provided by you or your Captain. While incorporating the legendary Gyotaku style custom additions are available as well such as the ability to add authentic Japanese "Han-Ko" or "Kan-Gee stamps or Hawaiian logos to your piece.
